Splashdown ripples out to make big splash at Weston-super-Mare
Poole based waterpark, Splashdown, has been selected as the chosen operator for a new indoor waterpark and pool to be built in Weston- super- Mare. The development, on the site of the former Tropicana open air pool on Weston seafront, will also include a 96 bedroom hotel, bowling, restaurants, cinema complex, retail and leisure units. Detailed planning applications are to be submitted early next year, following a public consultation which starts this week. If approved building work will commence in Winter 2008 and "Lifestation@Tropicana" is scheduled to open in the summer of 2010.
Splashdown's Managing Director and owner, Alan Richmond, says: "This is a fantastic opportunity for us and a fabulous facility for Weston-super-Mare. We have been lucky enough to have been in at the start of this project and have provided the developers with practical assistance that will help them build a first class waterpark and swimming pool facility for the residents and visitors of Weston-super-Mare to enjoy. The development will also deliver a significant improvement to the tourism offer in North Somerset and will bring a renaissance to the seaside in this area and a real boost to the economy. Splashdown will attend the three public consultation days to be held in Weston-super-Mare on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to answer any questions the public may have, together with the development team.
